Tag Docket

About

The spreadsheet had a good run.

Tag Docket is built by MM Sanford, LLC, an independent studio. It exists because every agency’s campaign links live in a spreadsheet that GA4 quietly disagrees with.

Every paid-media team we have worked with keeps its tagged links the same way: a shared spreadsheet with one tab per client, a column for each UTM parameter, and a person who remembers the conventions. It works until that person is on holiday, someone types Facebook where the sheet says facebook, and a month later nobody can say which spelling was the real one.

GA4 does not tidy that up for you. It treats facebook, Facebook and fb as three different sources, and it keeps every one. The report a client sees is split three ways, and the fix is always the same afternoon spent in a pivot table, explaining it after the fact.

Print makes it worse. A QR code on a mailer or a yard sign cannot be reprinted when the landing page moves or the campaign gets renamed. Whatever that code points at is what thousands of people will scan for months.

So we built the registry instead

Tag Docket is where every tagged URL and QR code an agency produces gets made and kept. The builder only offers approved values, lowercases everything with no setting to turn that off, and records each link exactly as it was shipped. Short codes for print can be pointed at a new page without changing the tagging, so GA4 keeps seeing the same campaign.

We are MM Sanford, LLC, the same small studio behind RFP Docket. We build narrow tools for specific jobs, and this one is for the media buyer who ships forty links before lunch and the agency owner who has to explain the reports afterwards.

What shapes it

These rules are built into the product, and none of them can be switched off.

A mint is frozen

Once a link is composed, the string is stored and never recomputed. Renaming a campaign changes what you see, never what is already published. GA4 recorded the old value, and the QR code is already on the yard sign.

The client owns their history

The agency owns the taxonomy and templates it wrote. The client owns the records about them. Export is always free, and a move to another agency is approved by the client, not the agency they are leaving.

The meter is clients

Never links, never seats. Charging for every link would make people stop recording links, and a registry with gaps in it is back to being a spreadsheet.

No passwords

People sign in with an emailed link. Media teams change often, and every password is one more thing to reset, paste into a chat, or leave behind when someone moves on.

Warn, don’t block

A redirect that drops the query string, a page with no analytics tag, a pairing that looks wrong. The tool tells you beside the field. The call stays with the person shipping the link.

How we work

Small on purpose. When you get in touch, the reply comes from someone who works on the product. Accounts are set up for each agency, not through a self-serve signup, so the first conversation is about your clients and your conventions, not a plan picker.
